Is Gingerbug kombucha?

We often get asked this question. No, Gingerbug is not kombucha. But there's more to the story...

Ok. But is Gingerbug like kombucha?

Yes… and no. "Yes" in that it's brewed, good for your gut, and fermented. "No" because kombucha is made with tea, has a different flavor, and undergoes a different fermentation process. While both have similar digestive health benefits, their taste and brewing methods vary significantly.

So, is Gingerbug a ginger beer? Like the ones on store shelves?

Absolutely, but not like you might think. Gingerbug is a unique kind of ginger beer, reminiscent of the traditional, fermented, naturally probiotic ginger beer brewed in 1700’s England. Unlike modern "ginger beers" which are essentially ginger-flavored sodas, Gingerbug revives the original health-tonic, fermented version – low in sugar and packed with health benefits.

Does my Gingerbug need to be stored in the fridge?

Definitely. Gingerbug is alive with beneficial cultures and should always be refrigerated. If left at room temperature, it will continue to ferment, becoming less sweet and potentially creating a fizzy mess upon opening. For the best experience, keep your ‘bugs’ cool until you're ready to enjoy them.

Is there alcohol in Gingerbug ginger beer?

By Canadian standards, Gingerbug is classified as non-alcoholic. The natural fermentation process may produce trace amounts of alcohol, but Gingerbug contains less than 0.5% alcohol, similar to non-alcoholic beer.
